中国古代有四大别称：神州，九州，华夏，中原。

There were four nicknames in ancient China: Shenzhou, Kyushu, Huaxia and Central Plains.

古人多相信半神文化，传说中国是神的故乡，从盘古开天辟地到女娲、伏羲、神农等众多神话故事，赋予中国神州的称号，神州大地是位居世界中心的国度，又称中国。

九州是中国古代典籍中所记载的夏、商、周时代的地域区划，古人将全国划分为九个区域，号称九州。华夏原指中原地区，《荀子》：居楚则楚，居越则越，居夏则夏。春秋时期并称为华夏，《左传》：裔不谋夏，夷不乱华。

Kyushu is a regional division of the Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties recorded in ancient Chinese classics. The ancients divided the country into nine regions, known as Kyushu. China originally refers to the Central Plains. Xunzi: living in Chu is Chu, living in Yue is Yue, and living in Xia is Xia. In the spring and Autumn period, it was also called Huaxia. Zuo Zhuan: descendants do not seek summer, and foreigners do not disturb China.

楚失华夏，则析公之为也。中原又称中土、中州、华夏，指洛阳至开封一带，是中华文明的发源地，华夏民族的摇篮，被视为古代的天下中心。
