1963年前后，笔架山文工团排演话剧《墙头记》。剧团分派王勇饰演剧中人物大乖。剧中的其他人物老爹张木匠由白俊清饰演;二乖由朱琛久饰演，大怪媳妇由曹庆珍饰演;饰演二怪媳妇的叫庄怡。还有个角色是银匠，由孙成久饰演。

"I think there must be an article here. The four of them pester Wang Yinjiang and let him tell him where his father hid silver. Seeing that they were so greedy, Wang Yinjiang decided to punish them again, so he asked them to dig the wall. They planed so hard that the wall fell under it and they were punished.

演出大获得成功。人们对剧中自私、贪婪、小心眼会算计的大乖人物印象犹深。演出过后，笔架山文工团在黑龙江省内便出了名，曾到全省各地进行交流演出。大乖的名字也就开始跟定了王勇一生，只是演员在台_上念台词时“乖”和"怪在台下听不准，以后就把大乖叫成了大怪。

大怪的外号叫响后三年，文化大革命开始，农场文工团解散，演职人员自寻出路，有去县里文化馆的，有进农场机关的，30岁的王勇，顶着大怪的外号被分配到农机修配厂学起了电焊工。

那次汇演给大怪留下印像最深的是辽宁铁岭剧团赵本山和黄晓娟演的是拉场戏《麻将豆腐》。回来后大怪逢人便讲辽宁有个赵本山二人转演得好，全国也没这样全才，吹、拉、弹、拨样样都行，说、学、逗、唱全面精通，将来在演艺界必是黑马出头。

大怪的一生，受水浒传梁山好汉的影响，只爱和仗义疏财有些文彩之土打交道做朋友。
