Ugandans love drums, and most of them are equipped with drums of various decorations, from common people's families to the presidential palace. Before uqianda became a republic, there were four kingdoms, buqianda, buniolo, Toro and ankelet. Each kingdom had a set of drums of different sizes, with a maximum of more than 1000 drums. The hammers were made of ivory or human bones. Ugandans are very sensitive to the melody of drums. As soon as they hear the drums, they will naturally swing their hips and dance.

Uganda is full of forests, rivers and lakes, and transportation is extremely inconvenient. Drums have become a means of delivering messages. When the village head wants to call on everyone to build bridges and roads, he beats the drum of "longala, agaramitong", which means: "I don't want anyone to sleep." Hearing this kind of drum sound, people will quickly take tools and rush to the construction site. When we hear the drum sound of "Guanjia, Muji, Guanjia, Muji", it means that some companions are attacked by beasts or enemies. Adult men, armed with spears, shields, bows and arrows, will immediately gather to rescue. Sometimes, the sound of alarm drums will relay from one village to other villages to prepare the whole tribe for battle.

Drum is also a tool for religious and superstitious activities. Ugandans believe that drum sound can transmit information between mortals and immortals. Therefore, the church prays and sings the hymn, accompanies with the drum. Until today, no matter in rural and urban areas, there is no day without drums. People are born and die with drums.

Ugandans are fond of singing and dancing. They often dance with drums. However, drumming and ghosts are free to travel, so drumming dancers always hide their faces behind masks, and apply various colors on their bodies to avoid the harm of ghosts. Among them, the dancers of zouso nationality are the most distinctive. They painted red on their faces, wrapped in monkey skin, wore ornaments made of glass beads, shells and small pieces of leather on their chests, wore bracelets made of shells on their left hands, tied oxtail whips on their right wrists, tied iron bells on their ankles, and held special dancing sticks on their right hands. Every decoration has its meaning. The dancers dance with the drums, showing the brave and resolute, rough and bold spirit of the African people.
