1969年7月17日出生于日本大阪府大阪市，少年的时候因为想成为海贼，进入商船高专就读，但在学校里发现无法成为海贼，于是休学。后来在”彻子の部屋”演出时曾说，当时想既然无法成为海贼，至少可以演出海贼，因此立志成为演员。

Born in Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan, on July 17, 1969, when he was a boy, he wanted to become a pirate and entered the Merchant Shipping College. However, he found that he could not become a pirate in school, so he suspended school. Later, when performing in "chetzu hobu house", he said that since he thought he could not be a pirate, he could at least perform a pirate, so he was determined to become an actor.

之所以对海贼产生憧憬，是因为年幼时看了Tyrone Power主演的电影《海上征服者》所致。而后又看了深作欣二导演的《蒲田行进曲》，而强烈的想成为电影演员。

19岁上京，即使努力的找经纪公司和参加甄选会，还是只能自立去找临时演员的工作。为了推销自己，甚至还有过一人兼任经纪人的时期。

When he went to Beijing at the age of 19, even though he tried hard to find a brokerage company and participate in the selection meeting, he could only find a job as an extras on his own. In order to sell themselves, there was even a period when one person worked as a broker.

但是他的演员之路还是很不顺遂，只好暂时放下演员的工作，从大洋洲、到南美洲、东南亚等地海外放浪近四年的时间。

1999年，以电影《皆月》和《日本黑社会LEY LINES》获得了Kinema旬报新人男优赏及Nifty电影大赏最佳男配角奖等奖项。《皆月》还获得了横滨电影节的最佳男配角奖。当时在这部电影中合作的奥田瑛二，为他取了一个绰号叫"浮游的爬虫类"。
