60年代初，谭邦兰出生在一个医学世家，因从小在爷爷与父亲的谆谆教导下，耳濡目染，打下了深厚的中医学基础，她自重庆医科大学毕业临床应用技术毕业后，便做了一名妇科大夫，但作为妇科大夫的她接触到了更多的女性朋友，而无一例外的是，大量女性朋友常受各类乳腺疾病的困扰。而各类乳房疾病呈上升趋势，面对严峻的乳腺疾病现状，她做出了改变自己一生的决定：“我要让中国所有的女性都健康美丽，减少乳房疾病的痛苦”，于是，她从事了女性乳房医疗的相关工作，一干就是17年，她是一个为信念而执着的女人，而且一直不曾放弃。
