The United Kingdom and the European Union reached a consensus on the "breakup fee" of the European Union
People's daily London November 29, according to British media reports, the British government and the European Union negotiator agreed on the so-called "Britain's Euro retreat" act, and made potential breakthroughs for negotiations in December this year.
Both sides confirmed that the British Prime Minister Teresa and Juncker, the chairman of the European Commission, will reach a principled agreement next Monday at noon on the issue of the breakup fee of more than 60 billion euros.
It is reported that the final breakup fee has not been fully determined, and it is expected to be between 45 billion and 55 billion euros, depending on how the two sides negotiate how to calculate, but far higher than the 20 billion euros proposed by Prime Minister Mei before. A number of diplomats indicated that the total amount of "breakup fees" paid by the European Union required nearly 100 billion euros, but after deducting all kinds of deductions, the amount actually paid will be less than half.
The three proposals put forward by the British side, including the breakup fee, the civil rights and the Northern Ireland border, will be put forward by Prime Minister Mei in December 4th, so that the chief negotiator of the European Union Michel Baniya can make suggestions for the next negotiation. Jo Ba Niel agreed to the above proposal that the European Union could further discuss and resolve the resolution.
According to media reports, Britain had previously said it would only pay 40 billion euros, but prime minister Mei was forced to raise the offer last week and accepted most of the EU's requirements.
A European union spokesman said Brussels will continue to engage in "intensive negotiations" before next week's meeting. He said we are exploring how to continue to consolidate the recent momentum of negotiations in order to continue and explore future partnerships with the UK.
Despite the progress of the bill, the two issues of the role of the European Court and the Northern Ireland border remain a major obstacle to the negotiations.
On the issue of the European Court of justice, the discussion is on the extent to which the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom should or must consider "the European Supreme Court's decisions" properly, because these decisions affect the rights of European citizens living in the UK. Negotiators are still looking for a satisfactory way not only to retain the European Court as the last arbiter of the EU law, but also to maintain the sovereignty of the British court.
However, the most difficult issue to date is still the border problem of Northern Ireland. Ireland disagreed with the establishment of a border with Northern Ireland. Leo Varadka, the Irish prime minister, said he wanted a written guarantee that there would be no tangible boundaries. Dublin believes that it can be achieved only by leaving the Northern Ireland under a single market and a customs union. But this option is not possible after the British exit from the European Union.
British government sources acknowledge that there is still a way to go on the border issue. In contrast, the other two key areas: the separation fee and the EU citizenship rights also look forward to progress. (Bai Tianhang)
