1979年10月5日出生于福建福州，祖籍福建泉州石狮，成长于福建南平 ，中国内地影视女演员，毕业于北京电影学院99级表演系。

Born in Fuzhou, Fujian Province on October 5, 1979, and born in Shishi, Quanzhou, Fujian Province, she grew up in Nanping, Fujian Province. She is a film actress from the mainland of China and graduated from the 99 performance Department of Beijing Film Academy.

父亲是泉州石狮人，母亲是湖南人，父母安家在南平。姚晨出生在福州，奶奶家在福州。从小在南平上学，寒暑假在福州奶奶家渡过，14岁北上求学，就读于北京舞蹈学院附中93级福州班民间舞系。

His father is from Shishi, Quanzhou, his mother is from Hunan, and his parents live in Nanping. Yao Chen was born in Fuzhou, and his grandmother's family is in Fuzhou. He went to school in Nanping since childhood. He spent winter and summer holidays at his grandmother's home in Fuzhou. At the age of 14, he went north to study in the folk dance department of Fuzhou class, grade 93, attached middle school of Beijing Dance Academy.

1999年，姚晨考入了北京电影学院表演系99班，当时她作为福州歌舞团选送到北京舞蹈学院公费培养的学生，毕业后不回团工作就要支付10万元保证金，而报考北京电影学院也必须要有单位的公章，而第二天也是高考志愿填报截止的日子，她的父亲通宵筹到了钱。姚晨曾经在福州的餐厅打工 。

Her father raised money all night. Yao Chen used to work in a restaurant in Fuzhou.

2006年，出演电视剧《武林外传》，凭借郭芙蓉一角获得第18届北京大学生电影节最受欢迎女演员。

2010年，凭借在电视剧《潜伏》中饰演王翠平一角获得第2届华鼎奖电视剧盛典最佳女主角奖。6月，姚晨受邀出任联合国难民署中国区代言人。
