1979年2月9日出生于北京，毕业于中央戏剧学院表演系。章子怡出生于北京市海淀区的一个普通工人家庭里，8岁时因个子瘦小而被母亲送到宣武区体校学体操，由于学校没有体操班，她便进入了宣武区少年宫学习舞蹈。11岁那年，章子怡考入了北京舞蹈学院附中，学习了6年的民间舞专业。1994年，她在全国桃李杯舞蹈比赛中获得了表演奖。

Born in Beijing on February 9, 1979, he graduated from the performance Department of Central Academy of drama. Zhang Ziyi was born in an ordinary worker's family in Haidian District of Beijing. When she was 8 years old, she was sent to Xuanwu District Sports School by her mother to study gymnastics. Because there was no gymnastics class in the school, she entered Xuanwu District Children's palace to study dance. At the age of 11, Zhang Ziyi was admitted to the high school attached to Beijing Dance Academy and studied folk dance for six years. In 1994, she won the performance award in the national taoli cup dance competition.

1996年，主演孙文学执导的剧情电影《星星点灯》，在片中饰演因患上骨癌而截肢的女主角陈薇，这是她的首部电影作品，从而正式进入演艺圈；同年，考入了中央戏剧学院表演系。

2004年，其主演的古装武侠电影《十面埋伏》上映，并凭借该片获得第11届中国电影华表奖优秀女演员奖。

2020年，以总排名第78位列2020福布斯中国名人榜 ；9月，担任第45届多伦多国际电影节“大使” ；9月，浙江卫视演技竞演类励志综艺《我就是演员第三季》官宣导师章子怡回归；同年，获得新时代国际电影节庆祝新中国成立70周年全国十佳电影女演员奖 。11月23日，海南岛国际电影节组委会宣布，章子怡将担任第三届电影节形象大使。

In 2020, she ranked 78th in the Forbes 2020 China celebrity list; in September, she served as the "ambassador" of the 45th Toronto International Film Festival; in September, Zhang Ziyi, the official propaganda tutor of Zhejiang satellite TV's performance competition inspirational variety show "I am an actor Season 3", returned; in the same year, she won the national top ten film actresses award of New Era International Film Festival celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of new China.
