梅墨生回忆李可染:画速写不能潦草苟且

  李可染

  记得一次在家中,李可染先生曾拿出一本速写本让我看,他是在指示我画速写也不能潦草苟且。先生当时说:“潦草最不可恕。”他对于浮光掠影、走马观花式的写生与所谓“深入生活”,近乎有一种本能上的厌恶。那一刻,我的内心受到极大的震撼。先生的认真与严谨无人能比。他的写生概分为速写式和素描式两类。速写式大多画的是全景,或者不是全景,构图上也比较完整。“主次虚实详略疏密”处理无一不恰到好处,如《罗浮山长宁公社敬老院》、《桂林雨景》、《象山山路》等一大批速写即是。这些速写式的写生,多使用的是铅笔或炭笔,行笔轻重疾徐极微妙、极丰富,仔细欣赏,简直就是一幅幅国画作品。先生用硬性笔却画出了软性笔的效果,可见他在写生时的用心程度和推敲处理过程。为什么李可染的写生创作那么受人重视和喜欢?原因就在于它们十分生动真实又有艺术处理。我认为欲理解李可染写生作品,最好先看看他的速写作品。先生的用心与妙处,尽在这些速写式写生作品里。近百年来的中国画家,长于速写与素描的当然不在少数。但有的速写只是速写,未能或未及转换为创作作品,还有的虽然已转换成创作作品,却又不太好,缺少艺术魅力,还有的干脆不画写生,是目识心记的一类,虽然我们也可以欣赏到他们的好作品,但看不到他们的艺术心路历程,我们能吃到“蛋”,却看不到他们“下蛋”的过程。

  有时,欣赏这些速写时,我会与先生的创作对比着看,那种感受十分美妙,有时甚至会幻想着它们成为作品的样子。显然,没有“写生”,也许不会产生李可染。更重要的是,没有李可染式的写生,也不会产生李可染。面对着《奉节城一角》这样的速写,不能不叹服先生的观察之深入仔细,也不能不叹服先生的取舍之匠心。
