       西媒称,20日发表在《自然》杂志上的研究报告显示,欧洲南方天文台的一个科学家团队观测到了一颗红巨星表面变化过程的“史无前例的细节”。

  据埃菲社12月20日报道,红巨星是“中老年”阶段的恒星,其体积会膨胀到非常巨大的程度,外层气体密度变低,表面温度下降,看起来呈红色,红巨星是恒星燃烧到后期所经历的一个不稳定阶段。

  报道称,这颗红巨星名为“天鹤座π”(Pi Gruis),质量与太阳差不多,但直径比太阳大350倍。

  该团队的科学家称,太阳以后也会发生膨胀,进而变成一颗与“天鹤座 π”相似的红巨星。研究显示,太阳目前约50亿岁,正处于“青壮年期”,现状还可以维持约50亿年。在那之后,太阳将进入红巨星演化阶段。

  报道称,“天鹤座 π”与地球相距530光年,根据拜耳命名法,其名称由希腊字母π和其所属星座“天鹤座”组成。根据拜耳命名法,一颗恒星的名字由两部分构成,一部分为希腊字母,代表恒星的亮度等级,另一部分是恒星所属星座的名称。一般来说,α星是每个星座中最亮的一颗星。
