袁朴,生于1946年,江苏镇江人。1964-1970年就读于湖北华中工学院机械制造专业。大学毕业后,被分配到文化部所属的湖北丹江文字605厂,长期从事活字制作、研究,对印刷字体研究较深,最让袁朴有成就感的是方正字库还收进了他的字体。

After graduating from University, he was assigned to Hubei Danjiang character 605 factory affiliated to the Ministry of culture. He has been engaged in the production and research of movable type for a long time. He has a deep research on printed fonts. What makes yuan Pu feel most successful is that Fangzheng font library has also collected his fonts.
袁朴现为北京印刷学院教授,中国书法家协会理事,北京仁和美术学院顾问,北京德和轩书画院副院长。作品多次参加国内外书法大展,作品赠美国布什总统,并为美国国家博物馆收藏;2006 年应邀赴俄罗斯参加国际书法展;作品进入法国罗浮宫展示,并由俄罗斯国家博物馆收藏。

在605厂字模厂工作期间,他写了一篇关于字号大小内在规律的学术文章发表在《中国标准化》杂志上,被时任国家“748工程”的技术总负责人王选看到。为此王选专门写信邀请袁朴去北京交谈,那时候王选负责研发的汉字激光照排机还没有制造出来。这篇文章分析了字号大小的视觉规律,后来袁朴与王选交流才知,这篇文章对王选后来激光照排技术的发明很有帮助,从而加快了汉字激光拍照机的问世进程。

袁朴的书法观点(三):从20世纪初西方的钢笔字进入中国以来的近半个世纪,硬笔字代替了毛笔,使中国书法渐渐不再具有实用性。尤其是近十多年来,电脑的高度发展和普及、这一代年青人不要说用毛笔写字了,甚至即将远离硬笔,进入一个无纸无笔的键盘时代。对年轻一代来说,中国传统书法文化已经濒临一个丧失殆尽的边缘。

“爨”曾是古南中(今云、贵、川部分地区)的大姓,但爨体字并非爨氏所创,而是1600年前魏晋时期,云南曲靖地区百姓为纪念“爨氏家族”给南中地区带来的辉煌历史所立碑文中的字体。
"Cuan" used to be a big family name in ancient nanzhong (today's Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan regions), but the Cuan style characters were not created by the Cuan family, but by the people in Qujing, Yunnan Province, 1600 years ago, in order to commemorate the glorious history brought by the "Cuan family" to nanzhong region, Cuan characters were not created by the Cuan family.
