“这也叫葡萄酒？中国的葡萄酒就是这味道？”一位法国朋友的直率评价让新中国第一位海外葡萄酒专业博士李华坚定了回国的决心。1986年，放弃留法的优越条件后，李华回到了荒凉的陕西小镇杨凌。30年后，他培养的硕士博士研究生已近四百名，所领导的西北农林科技大学葡萄酒学院已成为全世界最大的葡萄酒学科学院，培养的学生占全国葡萄酒行业专业技术人员人数将近80%。“归纳起来，我这大半辈子，引导了一个产业的发展，培养了一批人，开创了一个学科。就干了葡萄酒这一件事，值了！”李华说。

在人们口中，地处西北的西北农林科技大学进入985、211行列被称为“逆袭”，是国家战略扶持下克服逆境的典范。世人眼里，优厚的薪资待遇、大城市的生活质量就足以构成用脚投票“东南飞”的理由，科研条件都是可以创造、弥补的。可在西农的坚守者眼中，科研是第一位的，做出事业、回报祖国才是至高无上的价值追求。事业在哪里，阵地就在哪里，梦想在哪里，家就在哪里。在农言农，地处关中千里沃野的杨凌就是最好的农业论文纸。免去候鸟般浮光掠影的考察，深扎一线才是农业工作者的本色，也是一切有志大事业者的共同选择。

“远看像卖炭的，近看像种地的”是西农专家对自己的谑称，言辞间是戏谑，更是自豪。现年72岁的小麦专家王辉乍看就是一个黝黑的关中老汉，几乎与“儒雅范”“书卷气”绝缘，却以43年的扎根田间地头为农民带来了实实在在的获得感，培育的新品种增收小麦40多亿公斤，新增产值90多亿元。面对多次外地高校的高薪诚邀，他的回答很干脆：“科学研究有连续性，挪窝要另起炉灶，走啥！”

科学研究有连续性，也有地域性。世界高等教育发展的经验证明，扎堆大城市集聚发展并非科技进步的唯一出路。在“双一流”建设如火如荼的今天，因地制宜、注重特色内涵式发展才是多数高校的必由道路。在荷兰，北靠粮区南依牧场的瓦赫宁根大学不仅在英国教育升学组织世界大学排名、《美国新闻与世界报道》世界大学排名等国际权威排行榜坐上农业科学的头把交椅，更以接地气的科研转化让地狭人众的荷兰成为世界第二大粮食出口国。而胡适留美的第一站康奈尔大学则以农兴校，让所在的伊萨卡小镇成为风景绝胜、文教蔚然的众人神往之地。在中国，陕西杨凌也已小露峥嵘，一代代西农人对使命的清醒认识和执着追求，已经让一座普通小镇焕发出科教新城的勃勃生机。

西北有高楼，何必东南飞。这高楼起于西农创业者的筚路蓝缕，成于中央对“三农”工作的高度重视和对专家人才的服务保障。在新时代的伟大征程中，我们希望“种地的”专家能多些再多些，也希望“挖煤的”“巡山的”专家源源不断地涌现出来，把论文写在祖国的大地上。大学非大楼之谓也，大师也不等于衣履光鲜地在各种场合亮相。在决胜全面小康的今天，中国比以往任何时候都迫切需要真做事、做真事的专家学者。实践学科有自身的特点，野外作业不可或缺，苦些累些虚荣少些，学术的进境便是最好的追求与报偿。

当然，禀赋优厚的科研区位优势离不开投入和保障，专家学者仍然需要良好的科研配套和稳定的生活预期，为一线工作提供坚强后盾也是打造科研高地的题中应有之义。至少，在陕西杨凌，在西农，我们可以说一句：西北有高楼，何必东南飞！
