发现者:发现名钻怎么办?只能冒险一试了
摄政王钻石的传奇经历,开始于1698年印度安得拉邦的贡特尔地区的科鲁尔矿,一名在钻石矿干活的印度奴隶发现了一颗巨大的钻石,原石重达410克拉。为了将钻石带出矿山,这名奴隶将自己的大腿割伤,形成一个比较大的创口,并将钻石藏于其中,骗过了奴隶主逃了出来。

后来船长以1000英镑的价格将这颗钻石卖给了一位叫做杰姆村德的印度钻石商。1701年,马德拉斯的英国总督托马斯·皮特以2.04万英镑的价格买下了这颗钻石,并把它命名为“皮特钻石”(The Pitt Diamond),而总督也因为这颗巨钻,被称为“钻石皮特”(Diamond Pitt)。

1702年,托马斯·皮特将这颗钻石藏在长子罗伯特的鞋跟中,跟随商船“贝德福特号”被运回伦敦,在伦敦由珠宝匠约瑟夫·库帕进行切磨,钻石的重量也由410克拉减少至400.5克拉,并且花费了5000英镑,这在当时可是一笔巨款。又过了两年,皮特钻石再次被切磨,并被加工成若干颗钻石,其中最大的一颗重140.64克拉,被加工成老式的枕型切工,从正面看好像一面盾牌,很是威风,这就是今天我们看到的摄政王钻石的形态。而其他的小钻,据说有一些被卖给了俄国彼得大帝。
