据陈可辛导演介绍，这部短篇作品完全是用iPhone X 拍摄完成。短篇作品中，一位工作在平凡岗位上的女列车乘务员，载着旅客回家过年，然而自己只能和她的孩子在站台相聚短暂却又珍贵的“三分钟”。这也是片名《三分钟》的由来。 

不同于传统的伟大人物、家国情怀的感动，每个在自己岗位上服务和奉献的普通民众，也有平凡中的感动与伟大。陈可辛导演用镜头记录了一位春节坚守在岗位上的母亲与孩子团聚的感人时刻，短短的三分钟，凝聚着国人对于团聚的期盼与喜悦，在春节这个特殊时点， 更彰显了与家人相聚的珍贵。

陈可辛导演表示：“使用iPhone X 拍摄是一种全新的体验。”他谈到，在电影叙事中，灯光是一个帮助讲故事并建立人物性格的工具， iPhone X 的人像光效很好地实现了这一点，而且可以切换不同光效，表达不同情绪。此外，很多电影后期剪辑特效如延时拍摄、慢动作等， iPhone X 在拍摄时就能即现效果，让拍摄过程充满了各种即兴的尝试。
