Do you want to try out the slum accommodation experience for tourists in Mumbai, India?

According to the guardian of the UK in January 29th, India has recently launched a special tourism service to provide visitors with the accommodation experience of the Mumbai slums.

The service was created by a non-governmental organization staff member in Mumbai, 32 year old Dutch David Bij and Mumbai slum dweller Ravi San West. San Xi's home is one of the "hotels". His family has a new "loft", which is equipped with flat-panel televisions, air conditioners and new mattresses, which are luxury products for most slums residents.

Bijie said, the slum night accommodation fee is 2000 rupees (about 199 yuan), the money is all delivered to the family providing accommodation. He has gained many benefits from the slums families who want to invite guests to stay.

He further pointed out that the slums are part of the "real Mumbai". Anyone who wants to know the inequality of the city needs to know the life of the slums. He thought that touring here in other ways is often "superficial". "Tourists came in to take some photos, put them on Facebook webpage, and didn't really understand anything, and then left."

About 60% of the 20 million inhabitants of Mumbai live in slums. The city's houses are scarce and expensive, and even the richest residents complain about rent and house prices. Here, the slum tourism project is not new, but it has been controversial.

Supporters believe that this tourism provides a window to understand what poverty is, and tourists and slum dwellers can benefit from interaction, especially if the money goes directly to the latter. Achim Sheikh, the manager of Reality Tours and Travels, a tourist company, has been taking tourists to a slum in Mumbai for the past 11 years. He said this could eliminate the negative image of dirty and rampant crime in the slums, and let people see the way people live here.

However, A P Tamm, the president of Slum Dwellers International, criticized the plan. "These tours are meaningless, and there's no effect on the night here," he said. This is not an object on display in a museum, nor is it an animal in a zoo. This is a community where real people live their lives here. Staying in the last night can neither help nor help the families. "
