12月24日，由国内专业体育媒体发起和主办，有国内外百家权威媒体担纲评委的中国金球奖颁奖盛典在广州圆满落幕。最终，冯潇霆捧得首届中国金球奖，王霜摘下中国女子金球奖。

树立中国足球榜样，是中国金球奖创立的初衷。2017中国金球奖评选得到了国家体育总局宣传司、中国足协和中国体育新闻工作者协会的支持与指导。全媒体评选的机制，也保证了评选的权威性与公信力。为了这个大日子，迈克尔·欧文带着他的金球奖奖杯从英国赶来；意大利巨星皮耶罗也放弃了传统假期与家人团聚的机会，前来广州助阵。前《法国足球》总编辑、金球奖评委会主席肖米埃应邀到场祝贺。

最终，冯潇霆从2001年金球奖得主迈克尔·欧文手中接过首届中国金球奖。从投票结果来看，冯潇霆拿到441分，领先武磊（393分）48分，超出郑智（281分）160分，优势较为明显。2017赛季中超，冯潇霆帮助广州恒大实现联赛七连冠，而在国家队，他是唯一一名踢满世界杯预选赛亚洲区12强赛10轮比赛的中国国脚。场外的冯潇霆热衷公益慈善事业，这与中国金球奖不仅考量个人与团队竞技表现，还需衡量球员个性、品质及个人形象的评选标准完全吻合。
