准确地说，刘万金应是科班出身的工艺美术大师。

上个世纪七十年代，刘万金从内蒙古师范大学工艺美术系毕业时学的是雕塑专业，凭他从小就喜欢美术的功底，在学校时就是老师宠爱的得意弟子。毕业后不到一年就参加了当地大型群雕《翻身牧民》，他和群雕组一-同获得了当时内蒙古自治区文化厅颁发的优秀作品奖。后来又受旗里的派遣在辽阔草原上的各个旗盟雕塑毛主席像。

In the 1970s, when Liu Wanjin graduated from the Department of Arts and crafts of Inner Mongolia Normal University, he majored in sculpture. With his love for art since childhood, he was a favorite disciple of his teacher at school. 刘万金有时也搞些城市雕塑之类的作品。当和他谈到如何才能雕塑好一件作品时， 他引用了法国著名艺术大师罗丹的一句话:“要把一块石料雕成一张生动的脸，就是把不是脸的东西去掉"简练而富哲理。

退休后的刘万金被北京华艺家居集团的老总请上了自己的旗舰，担任起了“中国古典家具传承与创新研发"工作。

六年多来，他带领华艺家居公司设计室团队先后为北京地区的法国电力公司、波兰驻中国大使馆、北京外国专家大厦、天津奥林匹克大厦、山西太原华丽苑大酒店等近百家场所进行中式家居设计，使自己特长得到了最大的发挥。

Over the past six years, he has led the design office team of Huayi home furnishing company to design Chinese style home furnishings for nearly 100 places in Beijing, such as French electric power company, Polish embassy in China, Beijing Foreign Experts Building, Tianjin Olympic building, Shanxi Taiyuan hualiyuan Hotel, etc., giving full play to his strengths.

可能是受国学文化影响太深、刘万金最大的特点是谦虛，以致和他一起工作了好几年的同事竟不知道他最拿手的绝活是画鼻烟壶，最常回忆起来的是当年在大草原和那些蒙古汉子-起用二胡齐奏《赛马》。

Perhaps Liu Wanjin was deeply influenced by traditional Chinese culture, and his greatest characteristic was modesty, so that his colleagues who had worked with him for several years did not know that his best skill was drawing snuff bottles.
